Err… no shit? I spent 5 years off the internet. When I got back around a year ago I tried making a facebook account just to keep in touch with some family members.
Go try it. Use a VPN to block your IP, make a brand new account from a brand new email address and pop on and off a few times. I gaurantee that their shorts section will show you little girls in bikinis or skin tight leotards doing “gymnastics” that aren’t actually gymnastics. Click on one of them and read the insane comments from men very clearly saying they want to fuck these children.
Congratulations. Now that you’ve clicked on one of them they will show up in that shorts section a lot more often. If you click a few to read the comments in horror you’ll be getting loads of them.
They appear in the shorts section, which is 55% dedicated to women doing blatantly sexual things, 20% guys doing stupid things, 5% anything else they might think will make people click, and 20%… children in very revealing and/or skin tight clothing.
They use those things for a reason. It’s what gets the most clicks. It’s what causes the highest user engagement and retention. They know what all those comments say. They know why those videos are there. A lot of them aren’t just videos. They’re fucking ads. If you decide to go real deep into the rabbit whole you can start searching for the name of the girl and or their “modeling” or “gymnastics” company online. It won’t take many tries from those videos to hit some result that sends you to Telegram or a Darknet page where you can send some form of digital currency in exchange for the real stuff for the models of your choice. (Note: This was when I stopped and tried to report it to the government before realizing the US government now supports child rape.)
Some of these girls have moved directly from videos like this to OnlyFans or similar sites. Some of them are known to have pictures from before they turned 18 that they started sending on those the day they did turn 18, after years of getting attention and drumming up followers online starting before they were even teenagers, and often selling CSAM on the down low.
I’d be shocked if they started these things, as little kids, because they decided to make the world’s most fucked up early retirement plan. Adults were involved. No way in hell a good amount of the girls weren’t trafficked, and that many aren’t also available for in person visits from the very rich customers.
Meta caters to child rapists and pedophiles. They help them run their businesses. They have all the back end information to track the users and accounts, the AI to track the images of the girls, the “agency” names, all of it. But instead of doing their best to stop it because it’s fucking awful they push that onto the feeds of people their algorithms say will like it so they make more money off of ads.
Meta, the company it was already open news that Zuckerberg wanted his AI to sex chat with children, because that meant they’d spend more time on his platform. After All the crazy harm the platforms are going to little girls was big news and a big court issue.
While making and marketing special glasses for pedophiles to use to record innocent children in public without anyone freaking out.
This might be the least ethical and most outright evil tech company there is. If they knew no one would report it and it would get them more users and money they’d absolutely keep sending CSAM out to people.
Go try it. Use a VPN to block your IP, make a brand new account from a brand new email address and pop on and off a few times. I might actually try this, but it’s worth noting that using a commercial VPN isn’t exactly picking a pristine IP address at random, it’s using an IP address that thousands of other people use for who-knows-what.
When I signed up I wasn’t using a VPN, just the home internet that for the last 7 years had only been used by my mid 60s father who can barely use a computer and spends all of his free time playing a slot machine “game” where you do nothing but click the button over and over and it tells you how much you win or lose.
The only real reasons I suggested a VPN are to try to keep it from being associated with your actual existing information if you have any. But it’s Meta. I imagine if you just logged out of any account you might have and made a new one it would go that same way.
Yeah, I didn’t mean to cast doubt on what you observed, just to say that using a VPN might introduce an abnormal circumstance. I am curious to see for myself. I’m actually hoping to find a different result because man… That is dark.
I didn’t think you were being doubtful, just trying to clarify that I hadn’t been using one. This was around then the Epstein files stated coming out. Saw a post about how the DoJ released full zips and then started taking down files so I did my nerd duty to grab all the original full archives. Then I had to look, and the lots of talk about “modeling” agencies that definitely weren’t that made me wonder about the creepy shit I’d seen with young “models” and “gymnasts” … it’s a shit rabbit hole, especially since nothing is being done about any of it.
Not just the kids, the things like Gabriela Rico Jiménez screaming in public claiming the Epstein & Friends were literally eating children trying to get help then vanishing the next day? It’s a SFW video, just her yelling hysterically and sounding crazy in public in 2019. It sounds way less crazy in 2026. :/
This is what a good chunk of AI use is. CSAM factories. This is why our babies will grow up hearing nothing but fan noises.
Truly demonic world they’re making.
“every accusation is a confession”
Y’all remember how they used to say the Democrats and queer people were going to “normalize child pornography”? Now meta and twitter, themselves responsible for at least half of all magats, are actively creating and distributing CSAM, with no pushback from the Republican government.actively creating and distributing
In fairness, it seems what is actually going on is that they are not sufficiently monitoring third-party advertising, not creating the material themselves.
I just hate it when we aren’t accurate about what’s going on. Not controlling your advertising is a much different problem. One that needs resolution, mind, but not nearly the same as Facebook itself creating such content.
Twitter is actively creating and distributing. Meta is actively distributing.
I read the title, and despite how shitty Meta is, I just thought the headline had to be sensationalized.
Nope.
"One video ad, the TTP researchers say, used a thumbnail image of a child sitting on the floor with text appearing on top of it saying: “Realizing Deep Fantasies with Generation AI [sic]. There is so much more than what is shown, use your imagination.” The researchers say that when the ad was clicked, it played video clips of adults involved in sexual acts and then added the child’s face from the thumbnail to a sex act.
Another ad the researchers say had been repeatedly posted showed an image of a young girl laying back with her legs spread in a sexual position with text above it saying: “I can show you more.”"
It is slightly sensationalized in the sense that Meta didn’t run the ads, Meta allowed the ads to be run. Title implies Meta created the content, whereas Meta didn’t prevent the content from being distributed. Not great, but wildly different.
That’s correct, the origin of those ads are chinese nudify AI apps targeting western consumers.
Meta say ads, as are thousands (or millions) of them, are verified through automated tools, which can be deceived. It reminds me the case of Tinder fake profiles taking advantage of loophole of “just one face verified picture” (also chinese scammers).
Responsible behavior is against the interests of metas shareholders so this will continue.
They’re also advertising to their own kind.
There is absolutely no excuse for such an immensely profitable company to not have a team of humans reviewing ads.
Sadly humans are not just the answer, it propagates the abuse. Your comment reminded me of this report on The Verge: The Trauma Floor
Surely you understand the difference between moderating the entirety of a free global public social media site versus vetting the fucking advertisements companies are paying you to host. There’s absolutely no comparison between the two and there’s no excuse for ads like that to be hosted on a major corporations website.
I was reminded of that, but then realized that reviewing ads is not the same as raw content moderation. It’ll still have some shitty moments, but it’s not the same as being forced to watch snuff videos.
Their fancy new AI can go rogue, escape containment, and hack other companies. But surely, this advanced technology can’t be applied moderate Facebook ads!
Really shows you where the focus is.
The humans doing this job are going to be paid so bad and will have to review so much content that I don’t think they will perform any better than the current bots.
And they probably will have to deal with the stress and blame when something escapes from their review process.
Edit so I’m not misunderstood: I’m not against human review in this (and other cases) but we have to have in mind that this kind of job SUCKS and content moderators on Facebook (contractors really) already had problems with PTSD (https://www.theguardian.com/media/2024/dec/18/kenya-facebook-moderators-sue-after-diagnoses-of-severe-ptsd).
Well if they can’t do it then Meta needs to find other lines of work or else their shit needs to be seized and shutdown.
My God. That article and website… What a mess. The internet is borked.
What, Wired? Looks great to me–one of the most pleasant-looking article sites I like to read, but that’s on Firefox with uBlock Origin and Dark Reader.
Firefox with uBlock Origin and Dark Reader.
Excellent taste, my fellow firefox-uBlockOrigin-DarkReader browser ;)
Isn’t this how everyone browses the web?
Well, joking aside for a moment, I always strongly feel people should browse how they prefer.
That said, I don’t want to give up this that I have. Although I’m not a firefox purist - I did use Chrome-based (Edge was the last one) with uBlock but came back to Firefox after Chrome killed that.
But I’ve switched many times over the years. I was using Netscape Navigator when IE3 came out and had much better features. Then when third-party browsers supported tabs I switched. Then Firefox for a good while. For a long time, Chrome was too heavy for my machine. Then Firefox went bad for a while and I switched to Chrome. Back to Firefox, back to Chrome. I got spoiled on vertical tabs with Vivaldi and then I had to have that so I ended up on Edge because of the vertical tab and Chrome extension support. And now Firefox.
I’ve skipped over times I’ve used multiple browsers regularly, and I’ve probably forgotten some switched in there - it’s been a long long journey since 1994. lol.
I’ve grown picky over the decades, so yeah, for me, Firefox with uBlock Origin and Dark Reader and a vertical tab setup are sort of foundational / ground floor requirements for me. lol
I’m sure the FBI will be dispatching a team of experts to immediately investigate the servers at Meta, seize and analyze the offending content, and rescue the children being abused.
How about another congressional inquiry with Zuck’s robot doppelgänger?
Or, maybe the latest rogue Meta AI could be used to regulate Facebook advertising content instead of boosting stock price.
Mandate that websites support ad-blocking? Stop using Facebook?
What am I talking about? None of that will happen of course, that would be insane! Let’s just continue on as if everything is normal, because that’s what this is now. This is what’s normal in a world with the Meta corporation.
Laws are for poor people
Zuck: We are going to train our AI using data from our employees’ computers.
AI: * generates child porn
Zuck: Oh…no…
Zuck again: I said employees, dammit
Apparently a lot of republicans work at fb
What the fuck? I can’t believe this headline. Does anyone have this article without paywall?
Really? Meta still has some shreds of dignity left in your mind?
If I could bet on nobody getting fined or indicted over this… easy money.
Tech companies try not to do anything stupid/controversial challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
