The map is indeed confusing. It’s more a map of automatic-jus-soli / vs no-automatic-jus-soli. A child born of foreign parents in France can ask for French citizenship, whereas a child born in the US automatically gets it.
The 14th Amendment regularized the situation of the children of freed slaves. Without it, the United States would have had a massive population of illegal immigrants who would have had to be dealt with God-knows-how, since they couldn’t be repatriated to a country they’ve never known - even if their parents even knew which country they came from, if there even was a country at all.
In fact, the entire legal argument of Miller, Trump and the racist posse currently soiling the White House is that the 14th was only truly meant to solve that particular problem and nothing else, and therefore doesn’t apply anymore.
As for other countries that apply jus soli, they usually started doing so to encourage immigration and promote a “more desirable” population (i.e. displace the native ones), or bring in cheap labor. The US itself greatly benefited from easy immigration in fact, as they’re beginning to find out the hard way now that the immigrant population is being forcibly removed.
The article you link to concerns itself only with jus sanguinis, which applies to the United States because a child born to an American parent is automatically American (with exceptions of course). So jus sanguinis applies to the US.
Jus soli also applies to the US by virtue of the 14th amendment.

To be clear: IPv6 IS the correct and elegant technical solution to the exhausted IPv4 address space, and I was very much in favor of it for many years. In fact, I deplored that its rollout, which should have been swift and forceful, never truly happened in earnest.

MAC addresses are far from unique (they’re only 6 bytes long). And MAC address aren’t encoded in IP packets.

Yes I understand your dilemma. The problem is, everybody thinks the same way and the beat goes on: the employers don’t pay their employees the true price of their labor because they know the patrons will make up the difference.

Where I live now in Europe, people earn a salary that allows them to live a decent life. And if you try to tip em, they get offended because you assume they’re poor and they don’t make enough money.
I am on that list for some reason. I have no idea what Tesseract is, I have no interest in Tesseract or its creator and I don’t give a shit about any of this.
But when it was brought to my attention that I am on this rando’s shit list, I took a minute to go to his community - hosted on his own instance apparently - and left a comment on his thread about the blacklist to tell him he’s just not that important. And now I’m banned from his instance altogether apparently.

But I will say this: what a sad, empty life this poor man must lead to feel the need to curate a Fediverse blacklist.
Because, as John Fetterman and Bernie Sanders demonstrate, you can be 56, brain-damaged and mentally incompetent, just as you can be 84 and a have a brain that’s sharp as a tack.
I think public officials should be required to pass a mental acuity test - and possibly a physical too, so they don’t disappear in a hospital for months instead of doing their job because their bodies are decrepit - like airline pilots, truck drivers or crane operators. You have to be fit for the job, and that should apply to politicians also.
And just to be sure it’s fair, the tests should be public.
