I know KZ sends out notifications via Discord, so I expect they do get some sort of spike right after upload. And, as long as they are on YT, getting a quick post-upload spike also causes the video to be offered to more non-subscribers.

PeerTube doesn’t provide a revenue stream based on views. KZ and basically anyone that outputs “professional” animations has to have revenue if they are to pay their workers. Other revenue streams (e.g. Merch) can be distractions from the main task of producing video.

Nebula content is only available to subscribers, so the reach is tiny. Creators are free to mirror the content to non-Nebula sites, including YT, so I guess it could be an option.

Dropout is also subscriber only, and they are more jealous about making sure content appears there exclusively, at least for a bit. “One Backflip” and “Pissing Out Cancer” both were Dropout-only for at least a month before the performers could put the specials on other platforms.

Yes, it is possible. But, it’s really hard to get off YT after building an audience there, and YT seems to have a much lower barrier to entry than other platforms, even PeerTube.

Yeah, I think edutainment in particular should really try to at least mirror on Peer Tube. You don’t earn anything for views there, but you also won’t be subject to centralized content moderation.

But, KZ is, I think, captured by Capitalism, and would be unwilling to be hosted on a site that doesn’t pay them.

They’ve admitted to using “AI” content editing tools. But, I’d bet most of those tools are using “AI” either due to exploiting hype, or due to being based on non-generative, “AI” ML classifiers.

I agree that quotes aren’t a lot of action, but public quotes are one of the methods people in those positions affect the electorate and help (or hinder) candidates. I do hope the DNC contributes materially to the campaign, and agree that has yet to happen.

I believe an X mirroring service will count as a single “daily active user” for the X numbers, no matter how many actual people are accessing the information downstream of the mirroring service. I don’t use that number myself, so I’m not sure how it is calculated.

I can operate without X. But, not everyone can. For example, there are governmental organizations that only publish announcements on X. So, some people are going to need to use a mirroring service (or X itself) until they can get entities outside their direct control to change behavior, which always takes time.

I left X when it was still called Twitter, and do extensive ad-blocking (UBO; Medium mode), so I don’t see anything posted there. Thanks for the information.

Please stop using X. It only has ad income due to the “daily active users” numbers still being high. Leave it and if you still need to follow select accounts on it, join a Mastodon instance that doesn’t defederate @bird.makeup or one of the other X mirroring services.

As a fan of Bernie, I know the Democratic Party has chosen to freeze out it’s left wing often in the past. But, all the D officers/candidates/etc quoted in the article support Abdul El-Sayed.

Let’s see if they can stomach unity this time, and not preemptively attack them, since they haven’t yet failed Mr. El-Sayed. (Feel free to attack them for actually abandoning progressive candidate that could have or did win in the past.)

Even in a single-timezone organization, I think it is still useful to use UTC+offset because it avoids DST confusion and lets the company expand to a second timezone without the team members there feeling second-class. But, GMT+offset does have costs with dealing with people that don’t really think about timezones when scheduling, and those costs might overwhelm any advantages.

Was looking for this. Yes. Whenever possible, dates should be specified in a format that is BOTH RFC 3339 and ISO 8601. I’d say both have their quirks, but the intersection of the grammars is machine-parseable and human-readable without (much) legacy baggage or (much) experimental / reserved-for-future-use noise.

US here. I remember when it changed, probably 20-25 years ago. (Tho, of course it was gradual and localized and I’m only one data point.) I was an undergrad, and not in my first year.

IIRC, it was because “gulf stream” was a little ambiguous, because there’s a lot of gulfs many of which contain oceanic currents / stream. But, if someone in the U.S. or EU says “gulf stream” they are always talking about AMOC.
