I’m not talking about the father, I’m talking about the shitty, patronizing responses calling op childish or out of line for deciding how they want to remember their own father.

Funerals aren’t for the dead, they’re for the living. People should feel free to commemorate or memorialize their loved ones how they see fit. Demanding they do it your way is shitty and self centered.
