Even if you don’t have a smartphone, a nice combo of PervGlasses and surrounding phones will be sufficient to get what you’re venting about, so that law enforcement can protect the society from your darkest jokes…
And by the time this is implemented, piece by piece, the very same people claiming it’s acceptable/a good thing will totally agree with the processing: you should mind what you say around people, or alone.
Joke aside, every time there were actual review of laws pushed to protect [insert whatever potential victim] from [insert whatever potential threat] at the cost of losing a tiiiiiny bit of freedom, the conclusion is always dire for the said bill/law/mechanism. All countries.
It is never ever about protecting the people.

She was venting to her boyfriend. It was never meant to become public, or shared in a group, or anyone but her boyfriend, who, lets be bold and assume, knows her enough to assess if she’s really joking or she’s having a nervous breakdown.
So yes: the one and only issue here, is a Snapchat conversation is never a 1:1 conversation, nor are Instagram, Whatsapp, FB Messenger and what not discussions.

The EU is a complex organization with different power poles and a variety of different interests. Add to that members of parliament do not always understand everything they vote for. And yes: you get bad things, nonsensical rules, but also good things.
Overall, I would say it’s positive, but when it’s bad it can be brutal.
Edit: I forgot to mention lobbying! Brussels is full of lobbyists!
