Background: I was recently doomscrolling the All page when I found a post bashing a specific topic that’s somewhat personal to me. It was obvious that the OP was making a rage post, but gave it a read. I responded with my two sense countering OP’s perspective (in what I thought was a respectful manner). Admittedly, I did not read the rules of the community I posted in, but ive found if your civil most people will deal with you in good faith. Apparently that community is not a place that disagreement to the perspective OP expressed is tolerated. I had my post deleted and was banned from the community for my comment (I know its not hard to dredge up the details, but don’t want to name names cause that’s not really the point).

I keep finding myself dwelling on the whole experience and keep raging about how things played out. I know I’m better off not dealing with that community and frankly wish I’d never discovered it. The whole ordeal is becoming a major distraction from daily life and I don’t like the effects is having on my headspace.

So I suppose, how do you all deal with your brain dwelling on dumb interactions with mal-intented people? Lol, the ideal suggestion should not involve any tones of revenge.

I mean, first of all remember that it is a dumb internet community, and especially the ones like you describe tend to be populated by shut in neckbeards. You, meanwhile, have shit to do that is more important. Go do that shit.

If it is really invasive, then stop thinking about it and start feeling it. That is, don’t try to logic the feeling of how it was unfair, or they are assholes, or you’ve been mistreated. Instead focus on the sensations of the emotion you are feeling. You are feeling angry? How do you know you are feeling angry? A tightness of facial muscles? The hairs standing up on the back of your neck? Thoughts of violence or revenge? Notice the feeling with curiousity for a breath or two, or a minute or two if you still have time, or until the feeling passes and your mind wanders to something else.
