It is better at producing relevant information, but it may never be great, or even as good, at producing reliable information.

It’s not like the USA would otherwise be any help.

OK, but the point still stands if you allow that: It has become impossible to tell managers mesmerised by artificial intelligence that the tools are often not, in fact, helpful.

Carney was voted in because otherwise we would have got Pierre Poilievre, the Nazi-courting, MAGA-wannabe dweeb. It was strategic voting, not enthusiasm for Carney or the Liberals. If we weren’t stuck with first-past-the-post elections we wouldn’t be stuck with a choice between Neoliberal bankers and maple MAGA.

It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy: if all the corporate leaders believe it will change everything and, in a fit of FOMO, force it into every corner of our lives, then everything will be changed. But not so much because of what AI can do, as because of a mass delusion among the LinkedIn types.

Some people, particularly many Americans, use the term “liberal” to mean left-wing or progressive. The Liberal Party of Canada is not really liberal in that sense, though they make smallish gestures towards social progressivism when it doesn’t impact capital.

Beginning to suspect the Labour Party is something of a misnomer.

I was apprehensive about buying a used Pixel to install GrapheneOS on, so I put it off for a year or two. When I finally did it, it was so easy I wished I had done it sooner. It’s a great OS and you’ll probably be surprised how easy it is to set up. They’ve been warning us with some urgency since at least the 1970s. There were concerns published about it in the late 19th century. By the early 1990s the warnings were loud and clear for everyone to hear.

So their solution was to do the evil thing secretly?

There’s no legitimate purpose for destroying these books.

There are non-invasive ways scan books. But the destruction is an added bonus. These companies make a copy of these public domain books and then pulp the remains. They’re rare, so that means they’re hard to find (that’s what rare means, after all).

Then, they can turn around and sell their dataset to AI companies.

The destruction is the point.

Capitalism always creates perverse incentives. The most profitable thing you can do is seize something readily available and make it impossible to get without paying you.

But which companies are doing this? It sounds like these are companies that supply training data to AI companies. I think we need names.

LG TVs sound like a nightmare. They spy on what you’re watching, listen to what you’re saying and doing, open a doorway into your home network for malware, and put you on the hook for whatever some pedo decides to download through your IP address via one of these proxy-infested apps. Plus their monitors have been silently installing highly privileged adware that is also probably spyware on people’s PCs, and popping up big unwanted ads for McAfee etc. that users can’t turn off.

Traditionally, pedophiles.

One medical doctor, whose identity the Daily Beast confirmed, commented with sympathy for Thompson’s family and said the killer should be charged with murder, but then wondered about the damage the CEO had done.
